This was the concluding challenge from Sunday's sermon, "Seek Yahweh," stemming from Ezra 6:21 where we are told that the returned exiles were willing to separate themselves from worldliness in order to "seek the LORD (Yahweh!)". Of course, this is an appropriate challenge at all times, prior to Jesus' return. But with a New Year upon us, it seems an especially appropriate charge, so that whenever Jesus returns (Come quickly Lord!), we will be counted among those who are seekers of Yahweh, both as individuals and members of Christ's church.
As individuals, this New Year, I pray that we will more wholeheartedly Seek Him in our daily lives. As A.W. Tozer writes, in his classic, The Pursuit of God, "The universal Presence is a fact. God is here. The whole universe is alive with His life. And He is no strange or foreign God, but the familiar Father of our Lord Jesus Christ whose love has for these thousands of years enfolded the sinful race of men. And always He is trying to get our attention, to reveal Himself to us, to communicate with us. We have within us the ability to know Him if we will but respond to His overtures. (And this we call pursuing God!)" O that we would make seeking Yahweh priority one in our individual, daily lives. However, in God's Word, spirituality was never a merely individualistic pursuit, but always took place in the context of meaningful relationship with fellow members of the Kingdom. That is why I am grateful for the ten days of prayer initiative that has joined together believers from all over the greater Seattle area in praying for our city. I love the idea of believers from many Christ-centered churches in our area joining together to seek Yahweh in prayer that Jesus will use us to Light Up The City. Light Up The City is the network of which the Renton pastors group is a part that sponsored this ten days of prayer. Truly, the heart of our prayer is that Jesus will use us to Light Up The City (think Matthew 5:14-16). I encourage you to take a few moments to read the final devotional for this New Year prayer emphasis shared today titled "What is God's Heart for Your City? Day 10". As we begin this New Year, may seeking Yahweh through impassioned prayer, both individually and corporately, take a more central role in our daily lives. And may Jesus use us to Light Up This City! In Christ, Pastor Dan
